Gawad downs Elias on a night of upsets
2019 Champion Karim Abdel Gawad led the way on a night of upsets at the Wimbledon Club as he downed second seed Diego Elias, putting the Peruvian’s bid to become world #1 for at least a few weeks.
Gawad will play Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng, who came from a game down to beat sixth seeded Frenchman Victor Crouin.
There was French success though, as Baptiste Masotti overcame fourth seed Marwan ElShorbagy in five games, setting up a quarter-final against seventh seed Joel Makin, the only seeded survivor of the night.
