“No, it’s just in the second game that I really felt out of it – I had a poor start. He’s not easy to move around, and suddenly it’s 5, 6-love. I tried not to just give the game away, but then there were too many mistakes; I lost my accuracy, my intention.

“It was a long day, with matches running an hour late – these things drain your energy. Mentally, it’s tough to maintain intensity all the time.

“It wasn’t a pretty match, but I managed to pull through against a dangerous opponent, especially on his home turf, courts probably better suited to his style. Let’s keep the positives; it wasn’t all bad, far from it.

“It shows I’ve got resources at the moment. I won 3/1 without really feeling under pressure at the end. It’s a good win, and now there’s a day off to prepare properly for the glass court. I have a good match against Miguel coming up…”
