[7] Mohamed ElShorbagy (ENG) 3-0 Ramit Tandon (IND) 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 (29m)
Ramit had a great match against Miguel, and I have to say I had called it. I didn’t think that Ramit would have enough in the cans – after a eventful last week in India – to threaten the Englishman.
Mohamed didn’t put a foot wrong, helped by the fact that Ramit was hitting most of his shots around the service line, opening the court nicely for the Englishman.
I don't think Ramit Tandon appreciated that by @MoElshorbagy 💪
How did he hit that shot? 🤯

The crowd loved it, Bassim Haidar loved it (Mohamed’s and Marwan’s sponsor, along with this event and many more), and Mohamed was shining tonight as he deserves to.
Ramit : It’s not easy to back up matches like that, especially we went from the traditional court to the glass court, in an enviroment that Mohamed is used to: for him, England is home, he is used to play matches on the glass court, he has done it most of his career. Me, every time I get on the glass, it’s a change, because most of my matches are on the side courts.
Getting that win against Miguel drained me a bit physically, as well, and I have to admit I felt a bit flat today. And it didn’t help that Mohamed made about two errors the whole match!!!
It’s a combination of Mohamed playing so well, and me being a bit flat, no rising up to the occasion.
In terms of experience, it was very hard, the way he started the match, he adapted to the court a lot better, you knew from the beginning that he was finding his corners at the back. And I was 5/0 or 6/0 down in the first, I couldn’t find my lines or my length on the court.
It’s so different from practice, where it’s cold, nobody watching, the feel of the court is different, and right now, it’s a lot warmer than when I practiced, I was feeling that my practice was off as well. So a little frustrated as well that I couldn’t adapt well enough.
It happens often when you get a big win on the side courts, and you get on the glass… Like I said the other day, I don’t mind losing but if I’m not showing up, it’s a bit annoying.
Having said that, I’ve played Mohamed a few times now in a year and a half, and this has been one of the better ones. He was on top of it, he was attacking really well. Actually I asked him during the match “what did you have for lunch today!!!!??? And he was like ‘Man, I’m playing in front of my sponsor, he is watching me, I’m sorry, it’s not personal…”
Mo : “I’m playing in front of my sponsor and this event, of course, I’m going to play well.
“Thankfully, today I didn’t miss much. Ramit is a dangerous player. I’ll take a day like today where it all goes in but it doesn’t happen like that all the time.
“Ramit and I are good friends. I really like playing in England. I’ve won a lot of titles in England. This tournament is a special one for me, Bassim sponsors it and he is a really good freind of mine and without him this wouldn’t have happened. He’s been with me through my best years and not so good years, so to still have him here and putting events on is amazing. He supports Hania and Mostafa, the new World No.1s, so he’s investing in the game and it’s great to see.
“He’s not just the World No.1, but he’s dominating the sport, he’s creating his own legacy. I think my own generation, once we saw what he could do, we knew that we wouldn’t be able to stay with him. He’s been playing unbelievable squash, so I’m going to give it my best.”
