“I’m definitely better than this normally, I promise!

“No excuse, just elements like changing court conditions from yesterday, big match yesterday, my first time playing on the glass court with glass flooring, the weight of the ball is completely different, mental side, I never felt comfortable, all credit to Mostafa.

He was just too sharp,  too quick on the ball, I tried to do my best, it’s really frustrating when you don’t feel at your best and you don’t feel confident, and everything is just a bit off. That’s what it is to play Mostafa….

“It was a good match today. I think Vargas is an amazing player and he moves so fast. I knew he was having a tough battle yesterday and I made sure to be solid from the beginning. It’s my first match in a little while, since Houston, I think, so it’s good to get the win.

“Every tournament there is a battle for World No.1, so I just need to focus on the tournament first, and then the World No.1 spot. I’m super happy that I have reached World No.1 already.

“Being World No.1 is in every athlete’s mind. First, there is a mission to win the tournament and then be World No.1.

“I’m really happy to be here in front of this amazing crowd, and to win the tournament here would be really special.

“I’m very happy to have been able to move really explosively from round one and I’m happy that my dad is here supporting me. Jimbo is having a show on down in Pontefract, so he will not be able to make it until finals day. So I’m glad that my dad is here supporting.”
