R1: Same style of squash but it’s Noor 3/2…/ Jonah 3-0 Rafa

Noor Zaman (PAK) 3-2 Mazen Hesham (EGY)  11-4, 7-11, 11-3, 12-14, 11-2 (46m)

Bit of a weird one that one…

Noor was supposed to play his compatriot Ashab Irfan, one of the hope for Pakistan, training with Noor in Houston, but the poor boy just couldn’t get his visa on time and Mazen – first reserve – stepped in at the last minute.

It was actually the first time I saw the Pakistani play. I have to say I like him. I actually was very impressed by his game, his laid-back attitude, his respect for the opponent.

I was less impressed by the 4th, bless him. 8/4, Mazen seemed out of the game – both physically and mentally – but 7 errors from Noor can help getting back in the match, now, can’t they….

Noor had a match ball in the 4th, but Mazen determination to push for a decider was stronger than the will of the Pakistani to finish in 4….

It was “reculer pour mieux sauter”, mind, a step back in order to leap forward from Noor. He didn’t give his opponent a sniff of hope in the decider, another very short game, 5m, 11/2….

I feel that young Noor is going to learn, and that we will finally have Pakistani players where they belong, at the top of the game. He is bringing a bit of flair and invention to our game, while playing fair squash. I like. I like very much….

Noor : I’m really pleased with my performance.

As you know, Mazen is a top squash player, and my favourite player, actually. I love the way he plays his shots; I try to learn from him! He is coming back from injury so not at his best.

I feel I could have played a better squash, I only played solo on the court, and I don’t think my game was in place enough today.

What do I need to improve my game? Fitness and Patience.. especially patience…

Tomorrow, I’m playing Leonel Cardenas. We played in Open Squash, and I lost 3/2. It was very close, and this time, I’m ready and will work on a good game plan for tomorrow…

Jonah Bryant (ENG) 3-0 Raphael Kandra (GER)  11-9, 11-8, 11-3 (31m)

Jonah : “It was very open, he’s very skilful, so the rallies were open, and you’re doing a lot of moving, but it was an enjoyable game, very clean and fair and that’s the way I like to play the sport.

“The first two, I gave him too many cheap errors and he hit some great shots, but I closed the court down in the third game and still got my attacking shots in too.

“I play Surrey Cup here at Wimbledon so this is familiar territory so I can’t wait to play again.”
