R2: Noor upsets Leonel in three stunning games!

Noor Zaman (PAK) 3-0 [8] Leonel Cardenas (MEX)  11-7, 11-5, 11-7 (32m)ù

People, a star is born.

Yesterday, I was extremely impressed with the young Pakistani, from the Zaman dynasty, you might have heard of his grand-father, Qamar Zaman, one of the most impressive player of all times.

That was on a traditional court, against a player just called on the event as first reserve, out of injury, Mazen Hesham. I wanted confirmation of my feeling about him on the glass.

Check! That box ticked too!

What that boy displayed tonight on the glasscourt is nothing but an exhibition match. Leonel is NOT a pushover, and he can handle pressure and hard work. But tonight, he didn’t have any answer for the barrage of attacks that the young Pakistani (only 21) threw at him.

If I had to compare him with a recent player, I would say Karim Abdel Gawad. He is as impredictable as Karim, and as laid back. Nothing phases him, he doesn’t argue, he doesn’t get excited or that disappointed, he is not the most patient of players either though…

It will be very interesting to see him play a big level higher, Diego, in two days time…

Zaman : “I’m very pleased with my performance. Leo is a class player. We played at Open Squash earlier this season, and he beat me 3-2. This time I was very determined to get through so very happy.

“I was hitting my shots very well today and the court was taking them in nicely. This is my family game, and this type of performance would do those proud and I’m just so happy to be through to the quarters.”
