R2: Hania takes a game to get used to Torrie’s pace

[1] Hania El Hammamy (EGY) 3-0 Torrie Malik (ENG)  12-10, 11-2, 11-5 (35m)

I feel that Hania might have felt that Nouran was back on the Tour in the first game against young contender Torrie!

The English girl was hitting the ball so hard, Hania was struggling to catch it again and again. Unfortunately, Torrie lost a bit of accuracy, started to play a bit short, make a few too many errors, 6 in that game, plus 1 stroke conceded, that’s only 4 points for Hania to score in a 11 score!…

First game was 15m, hard work from both, Hania unable to shake off the English girl, 0/3, 3/3, 6/3, 8/8, 9/9, 10/9, game ball to the World number one, Torrie finding yet another stunning kill, 10/10. She dove trying to save Hania’s attack, 11/10 Hania second game ball, and an error to finish, 12/10 to the World number one.

5 winners for Hania, 9 for Torrie…

The second, I feel that Torrie is just K.O. from the game one, both mentally and physically, from 1/2 Hania goes and wins the game, 11/2 in 6m

But all credit to young Torrie, she reset in the third, 3/3, and kept fighting, diving, hitting a much more mixed pace, varying height and width, but Hania quietly scored point after point, not letting her young opponent a chance to come back in the match, 11/5, 11m….

Hania : “Very happy to be back here, it’s a special place for me, I love playing here, so it’s great to be back for sure.

“It was tough playing against her, I think she has a unique style of play, it seems like it’s winner or tin with her and in the first game today, she hit so many winners, and I had to try and find a way to get her out of the middle and improve my accuracy.

“It’s hard to play someone for the first time, especially someone so unique. You don’t see her style a lot, so it was hard, and it definitely took me the first game to get used to it, so all credit to her.”
